This week is American Craft Beer week. We’ll be celebrating daily by tapping 8 fantastic craft brews. What’s so great about these 8 beers? They are all rated 99% or above out of a score of 100 by beer associations. We are also bringing back our own Hop Solution Double IPA this week. It’s on tap right now, making 9 new great beers! Join us this Thursday, May 16th for the Craft Beer National Toast and be one of thousands who will be toasting to craft beer all across the country.

This Mother’s Day, on Sunday, May 12th we’ll be gifting every Mom with a complimentary mimosa during our Sunday Brunch from 11am – 3pm.

Tapping This Month: Schwarzbier a German Black Lager

The Lab will be tapping a brand new in-house specialty brew this April, a “Schwarzbier.” As the name suggests, this “black beer” is a German lager brew that while dark in color, has a lighter taste than other dark beers such as porters or stouts.

When you taste our Schwarzbier, you may notice more of a hops-bitter flavor than roasted malt characteristics. This particular brew has been in existence since the Middle Ages and you’ll often find it paired with chunky breads and marinated meats. You’ll enjoy this beer with our braised beef short ribs, our lamb burger or even with our Angus Hangar steak.

This beer will be tapped on April 25th. Join us between 6pm and 8pm on this day and try a tasting for FREE!

‘Tapped In SoCal’ Visits The Lab

Brant from Tapped in SoCal interviews Brewmeister Roger Bott, aka Dr. Hops.

The Lab was recently paid a special visit by Trent and Brant from the online video beer blog “Tapped in SoCal.” On their latest episode, they meet with our own brewmeister Roger “aka Dr. Hops” Bott, tour the restaurant and brewing room, as well as taste-test our in-house brews.

“Tapped in SoCal” travels all over Southern California exploring breweries and tap rooms. We are thrilled they stopped by The Lab to check out our latest and greatest ‘experiments.’

The Lab’s Dr. Hops is Off to Beer Camp with Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.

Our very own brewmeister Roger “Dr. Hops” Bott heads out this month on a rare adventure when he takes part in Sierra Nevada Brewing’s exclusive Beer Camp.

“It’s an honor to take part and to have the opportunity to go,” said Roger. Sierra Nevada’s Beer Campers will spend several days working together on a collaboration beer that will have an exclusive release. Roger will also be bringing the limited edition brew back to The Lab for a special release and tasting.

Roger has spent more than two decades brewing delicious beers and has done extensive research both locally and abroad. His expansive knowledge and love of the science and chemistry of the beer-making process earned him the name “Dr. Hops” and you can find him, and some of his best experiments right here in our own brewery.

Congratulations to our Dr. Hops on your invitation to Beer Camp! We can’t wait to taste your souvenirs!

Upcoming Events at The Lab

We’re brewing up for a great cause all day on January 26th. 15% of all total sales will be donated to KITT Crusaders, a local non-profit and pet rescue organization saving the lives of cats & kittens through vet care, adoption and foster placement.
KITT Crusaders is a 501 (c) 3 organization. Their local efforts not only save nearly 1,000 lives of animals every year, and they hope to one day open their own no-kill shelter.

The Lab Celebrates Our 1 Year Anniversary Nov 29th!

Come join us and celebrate our one year anniversary week of Nov 26th with our official party and tapping of our anniversary beer Thursday Nov 29th!

We’ll be tapping a new Double IPA every day of the week that week starting Monday Nov 26th with our own Double IPA going on tap Thursday Nov 29th. That same Thursday we’ll be hosting our One Year Anniversary party with live jazz, complimentarty passed appetizers, and samples of our Anniversary brew. All are welcome!

Then that weekend we’ll have a nice selection of all those Double IPAs we’ve tapped through the week, it will be like a mini Double IPA festival right here at The Lab! Looking forward to seeing you all!

From the national website, A Hamburger Today, comes a post titled, “30 Great Cheeseburgers We’ve Eaten This Year“:

In honor of National Cheeseburger Day, we’re rounding up 30 great cheeseburgers we’ve eaten so far this year. (We could pick more than 30, but we had to draw the line somewhere.) If you weren’t hungry before, you will be soon.

There were only five local eateries among the top 30 including The LAB. From L.A. premier burger blogger Damon Gambuto:

“The Lab Burger is made up of some impressive ingredients. The patty is eight ounces of Wagyu clod and sirloin beef sourced from the very good and reliable Premier Meat and ground in house. Megji adds some caramelized onions, bacon, blue and Gruyère cheese, and arugula. Those of you familiar with the LA burger scene are probably nodding with recognition about now; the Lab Burger owes a debt to the iconic (and overrated) Father’s Office burger. The Lab takes an important turn with their choice of putting all of these high-end components on the very good La Brea Bakery brioche bun.”
